Acrylic Nails- A beauty blab DISASTER

Ladies we all love to pamper ourselves from time to time so this time I was pampered with a lovely set of Gel Acrylic Nails. Honestly it was the best hour of me time that I have had in a long time, laughing a joking around with the nail tech. Then came the time to pay a grand total of $60! My mouth almost dropped to the floor, I never expected to pay that much to get my nails to look pretty. Then add on the $30 it cost to get them filled after three weeks ( I waited longer than the suggested two weeks) and get one pinky nail completely redone. Costing me a whomping $90 to have beautiful nails for a total of 5 weeks

When they say "Gel last longer" they aren't lying. I gave up on the "fills" after my fifth week, not wanting to pay the normal $20 each time. When I went in to get my gel acrylics removed they wanted yet another twenty dollars for removal, I decided to take a cheaper route at home. I waited an additional week and just filed the gel down each day causing my natural nails to hurt. I continued to cut down the acrylic. After two weeks of this I was completely over trying to remove the gel. I tried everything I could find on pinterest under the nail section. Nothing worked, I soaked my nails in acetone for 20 minutes and filed away, I clipped at the softened gel day after day. Finally I had FREE nails!

Now here's the kicker, no one tells you how awful your nails will look after all of this endurance to remove your acrylic nails. My nails are so brittle and thin that when they do grow back out they instantly break. I take biotin for hair and nail growth but yet my poor nails just can't seem to make it.

I'm not a fan of fake nails. They look beautiful but I hate the way they feel plus I like my nails short because I do so much and long nails and fake nails just get in the way. I take Hair, Skin and Nail vitamins and my nails are really strong but I've been taking them for a year now. Before my nails were really weak and constantly broke.

I was a nail tech for years and I know that acrylics damage your nails, but there's not much stronger out there.

However, they have some hybrid systems that aren't as bad and are also thinner - more like a gel system.

When I really want to have nice looking longer nails, I just buy the glue on kind and they last about a week for less than $7.

In highschool I used to get acrylic nails and the tech told me not to do it, that I had beautiful, strong nails and that it would ruin them for a long time. Of course I ignored her and got them anyway. It took until after college for my nails to be strong again! After a few years of Acrylic nails and regular fillings, my nails were weak, bendable and often peeled!

I wore acrylics for special events in high school, like proms and such, and always had a terrible time after trying to get my nails back to normal! I have since switched to gel nails and they don't leave my nails as damaged.

OMG the same thing happened to me. I decided to let my own nails grow. It does take a long time but in the long run you save tons of money on refills. I do like to give myself a treat and get some nail art but only on special occasions. I also learned how to do a french manicure on myself. Simply take a regular white nail polish and cut the bristles down so it is thin. It is easier to manage as the bristles are a little harder as opposed to the ones that are for it that are softer. You can do it yourself for cheaper

I hate fake nails. I just use a clear coat that helps my nails stay strong. I also take lots of vitamins that keep them healthy.

I've never gotten acrylic nails before. Mainly because I'm a nurse, and that's a no no in a hospital environment.
